The All Africa Poker Celebrity Charity Challenge, took place on Wednesday 27th February 2008 at Piggs Peak, Swaziland. Singer Danny K won the Celebrity Challenge and donated his winnings to The Compassionate Friends, a support group for bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents.

All Africa Poker Celebrity Charity Challenge 2008

 

Singer Danny K won this years All Africa Poker Celebrity Challenge and won R100,000 which he donated to the charity of choice the Foundation of Love in Katlehong. He also won the Celebrity Challenge in 2006. His generous donation to the Foundation of Love will provide the finances to build a crèche.


The All Africa Poker Celebrity Challenge was hosted by Piggs Peak Casino in Swaziland and saw 11 of South Africa’s top celebrities, battling it out to help the charities of their choice. Cash prizes were given to worthy causes, to help out with the day-to-day activities of their centers.

Piggs Peak Casino sponsored R150,000 of the total prize pool which was given to the top three celebrities for the charities. The prizes went as follows:

1st Prize - R100,000

2nd Prize - R30,000

3rd Prize - R20,000

Second Place went to Kurt Darren who donated his winnings to the Walter Sisulu Paediatric Centre, and Third Place went to Ed Jordan who donated his winnings to Tapologo Aids Hospice.

Among the South African celebrities were Colin Moss, Kurt Darren, Elana Afrika, Neil Andrews, Minki Van der Westhuizen, Darren Scott, Lee-Ann Liebenberg, Conrad Koch, Danny K, Ed Jordan and Swaziland’s very own Hlobisile Ndlovu.

Group Marketing Manager of Piggs Peak, Wendy Graaf says “What a day! We overcame staggering odds to get all the celebrities to the tournament, and it proved to be worth the effort, as these worthy charities were the eventual winners.”

An additional R50,000 was donated by Piggs Peak Casino which was given to the Piggs Peak Aids support group, on behalf of Hlobisile Ndlovu, the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Youth Affairs. Hlobisile said with gratitude that the R50,000 will make such a difference to so many lives.
